Great post about Mel's Drink. I really like this drink too, and a couple of times when I have drank it, I have felt an endorphine rush, so it did make me happy and give me a mood lift for a bit :-)
I searched: "endorphin rush cayenne" to see if there might be a reason for the endorphin rush, and I found out that there is! I found this quote on a website called Weightless Treasure and there are lots of other sites that have the same type of information:
"It is true that cayenne pepper can make you happy. Scientists from New York University believe that capsaicin can stimulate the “nociceptors” in the mouth and then send a signal to the brain to make it secrete a kind of pleasant chemical, which not only helps ease spicy stimulation, but also improve your emotions and make you feel good."
Sometimes I put a bottle of water in the freezer and make the drink slushy and sometimes I do like you mentioned above and add ice. I like to add ice to the drink when I make it in my shake glass. Then I can close the top and shake it all up real good and it is very cold and refreshing.
Some variations I use:
Sometimes I use organic lime juice instead of organic lemon juice and have even used organic apple cider vinegar when I was out of lime or lemon juice. I also buy organic bottled juice from the store as you do.
I add a few drops of organic Peppermint Extract to mine instead of vanilla. I think the Peppermint Extract along with the Cayenne Pepper and the Lemon or Lime juice is delicious.
A few times I have used the Maple Syrup but usually I use Stevia as you do.
Thank you Mel for coming up with such a great drink and sharing it.
