This is a great post Cheryl. You have such a gift of explaining things clearly. You're right...Mel needs our support now, and I am honored to help this man who has helped me and so many others in our worst hours of need. Being isolated now has given me a lot of opportunity to think. I've tried to imagine what my life would have been like had I not found Mel when I did. Grim is not a big enough word to describe it. I'm not sure I'd even be around...I was SO sick and the lab work at that time only revealed a vitamin D deficiency. Doctors didn't help...even the one who recognized Morgellons. I was stumbling around in the darkness as sick as a dog and being told I was delusional. If you're reading this you understand...and it's not a happy memory. Mel has lived it...and he's devoted his life to helping others in ways that are difficult to actually comprehend. I've known him for long enough to realize he is a one of a kind He throws himself into working as hard as he can to help all of us each and every day. This has cost him on every level, but he doesn't complain...he just keeps going like the Energizer Bunny. This is a huge time commitment per week...and Mel is not getting any younger. The way he keeps working all of the hours he does is by carefully managing the details of his life. Sleep and stress are two huge factors that can either help or harm depending on the circumstances. The rent on Mel's last apartment was getting totally out of hand...it was a ridiculous amount, and at the end, he was in a bad place...the rent was astronomical and this plus him trying to find the expenses to move put him in an impossible position. We all gathered around him and surrounded him with our love (donations) and thank God, Mel was finally able to get out of that money trap two years ago. The new place (where he lives now) is better in many ways...but it is so noisy. It started out with a group of girls living in the apartment above his who were loud and up at all hours. Then as the months went by, he discovered that the location of his unit meant wind...and lots of it. The howling wind rattled the very structure of his building and the whistling noise made it difficult to sleep. If that wasn't enough, the land behind his complex...the beautiful natural habitat that he was told would remain that way has now turned into a six day a week construction site complete with earth movers and all the other noisy things that go with excavating to build a commercial area. That's all the bad news. The good news is wonderful. Mel has actually found an apartment in an area he's very familiar with and it's a great place to live. Like Cheryl said...it's one story...has an attached garage at no extra charge...many of the things he pays for extra now are included in the rent...and the rent is less! Thank God. This is a huge deal because it's not easy to find affordable housing in Reno. I know...I've helped him look for months last time and a little bit this time too. I couldn't believe how much housing costs there. I've looked recently and it seems like prices have gone down some right now, so it's a perfect time for him to move. The best part about all of this is that with this apartment, Mel will finally have a chance to get his expenses under control and more in line with his income. I have no idea how he's managed to deal with the stress of finances with his current expenses...but he's so good with daily expenses...he can make Lincoln scream on every penny he touches...and that's why he's been able to barely get by. Now he has a chance to get that stress monkey off his back and that means he can focus on the huge job God has given him to do. He's been there and is there for us, and we now have the opportunity to be there for him. I'm about to send him some money...please consider doing the same. This is a good thing...Mel will finally get to a place he can manage financially, but he definitely needs our help to get him to that destination. Much love, Karen | ||||||
