11/16/2012 7:29:55 PM | Hi Nancy, I have been thinking of you all week and am so glad you are sharing your journey with us. I agree with you that hearing from Peter is so helpful to turn what is scary into a completely different perspective. How we think about our situation affects us so much, but it is HARD! It is ok to be tired. I too look at the chores as exercise - when I'm mopping the floors or dusting, sometimes I realize that I'm getting a workout at the same time. Unlike Mel, I was never a Felix - more of an Oscar, so the discipline is good for me and I hope I can sustain these habits when I get well! Give yourself a break, Nancy, and keep on doing what you are doing. About the laundry . . In the beginning I threw out almost everything I owned because I couldn't figure out what was safe to wear and what wasn't. I kept mostly polyester things some really hideous items! After a while, I felt I could add some warmer things, part cotton, some fleece, etc. but I use only two plastic bins right now, one with work clothes (I work 3 days/week) and one with everything else. I use Borax and let things sit in the water for a few hours and then add ammonia and finish the wash. I dry things with 2 sheets of Bounce. I don't even know if this is best, but I think it is pretty safe. I would love to hear from anyone who has ideas on this. I also spray Kleen Green lightly sometimes on my clothes before putting them on. I don't use real towels anymore because I could not tell if the cotton towels were re-infecting me or not. I use paper towels to dry my hair and this cuts down on laundry. In the beginning I threw out so much that I had to have it hauled away and I never look back on that because now keeping up the cleaning is more manageable. I also keep my place cold except for the room I sleep in and I am hoping the cold weather makes them less active in my environment. I hope you can make peace with your family issues this week of Thanksgiving. I know for me to focus on what I am grateful for will get me through the days ahead. Right now I am SO grateful that even though some of my family stayed with me when I got this, no one else was infected. I consider that no less than a miracle. Bless you Nancy, Ellen |
