Hi Everybody,

I was inspired by Terry (as ever) by reading her tribute and her description of her incredible discipline and organization skills. I've been doing this for a while and those two things are my biggest challenges. Although..I am SO much better...I'd definitely put my self in the 96 to 98 percent well category...so my shameful disclosures about how I miss the mark on organization and discipline are really not as dire as I make them sound...they're just not as tight as I want them at times...and I know those two things are THE thing that will eventually get me to the finish line.

I work a lot, and my schedule is different daily, so it takes some serious prep to make sure I stay on the "sum of the parts" during the week. However...it IS do-able...and I do it more often than not, so I thought I'd share my system in case it helps anyone else.

The pic shows all my notes I prepare on the weekend. This is the single most important step in keeping me on track. Here's what I do:

I decide what I'll eat for breakfasts, lunches, suppers, and snacks. I live alone, so I'll definitely eat the same thing over and again for lunch and supper. Yes...I can sometimes get sick of it...but...that's why I try to make things I really like.

I get out all of my recipes...some are just handwritten off this thread and some I printed. I'm sure I could make it nicer in a binder if I spent the time...it would be easier...but I haven't yet done that. Then I make a general grocery list of items as I read the recipes...then I make another grocery list of items in the order of where they are in the grocery store (I mostly go to Sprouts).

I put a little star by the items I might already have in the kitchen then I go check and then scratch off things I already have. I also make a to do list. You'll see that on my pic. Tomorrow's a hard day because I have to get my car to the dealership service center before 7:30 and then get an Uber to the office. Luckily I can get into the office on the weekends, so I'll go ahead and take my container of organic peppermint tea and a big zip lock of ice to the office today and put it in the fridge there. I'll take the rest of what I need with me tomorrow and it'll be ok in my lunch bag with blue ice while I'm at the dealership and getting to work...but I don't think the ice will make it, and I don't want to drag my big container of tea on the Uber, thus my going by the office today.

On the topic of ice...I like ice in my tea. I'm from the South...that's how we like it because it's HOT here. I know people from other countries read this and might think it's odd but it's just something that gets me through the day...always having a big glass of iced organic peppermint tea (sweetened with Sweet Drops stevia) on my desk. That'll get me though a lot of work. I have a big insulated cup with a straw because it would be so not good to spill anything on my computer and files...so a covered container is a bit of insurance.

Like many people...I have an ice maker in my freezer and there is some sort of a filter that the water goes through before becoming ice, but I don't think that's clean enough. I have a Burkey water filter (it's a bit pricey on the front end, but the filters last so long it's the cheapest way to get clean water there is that I can determine) and I use the filtered water to make ice. I now have a little table top ice maker I keep on a cart with my Burkey, but before I had that, I just used plain old ice trays. Once frozen, I just popped them into a plastic container in my freezer...it worked well and wasn't all that much trouble.

So...I spent an hour or two on the planning this morning, and now I'll go clean the fridge, get some things together I need to take to the office (besides tea and ice) and then run to the office before going to the grocery store.

Once home, I have a list of things to cook. I generally use the short wide mouth Mason jars to divide my salads into single servings, and assorted little containers for other items. I have some tiny little jars for salad dressings so those can be packed separately. I like to get all of these items packed up the night before because...

The morning! If I can get that started right, then the day goes well.

Here's my system:

As everyone knows, there are three things we need to take in thirty minute increments (though Mel has recently told me I could do 20 minute increments) before getting to breakfast and breakfast supplements. I've solved this by putting these things on my nightstand at night. They are:

1. Silver
2. Apple Cider Vinegar (I put my tablespoon of ACV in a small Mason jar and put the lid on it...don't want to smell that all night). I also put an insulated cup of water with a lid on it by my bed as well...we to chase the ACV with the water, of course.
3. One Magnifizyme

I start with the silver...20 to 30 minutes later I have the ACV and water...20 to 30 minutes later I have the Magnifizyme...20 to 30 minutes later I can have breakfast and breakfast supplements.

Having this all by my bed allows me to start at 4:00 to 4:30 am and take each of the above three items when I'm still half asleep and not get out of bed yet. If I start too late on these items, it throws the whole day off.

I'm not always in my office...most of the time I'm traveling from location to location. There's a microwave in the office, but I don't always have fast access to one if I'm in a different location. Because of this, I've learned to eat a lot of things cold, but I draw the line at soup. I have to check my schedule for the week if I'm going to make soup or anything that has to be heated and plot out where I'll be on any given day and how I'll heat it.

Most of the time I'm pretty over scheduled (just can't help that) and I have to eat in the car between locations. That's ok...it works...and I kind of like it because I'll watch my favorite Youtube channels on my phone while I'm eating, but the bottom line is I have to plan and prep to the max every week.

It's not bad though once I get into a routine.

And it's worth it. It's THE thing that'll get any of us well...adhering to the Sum of the Parts. And I've learned over the years, the better I can do this the better the results.

Maybe this isn't the right thread to put this on...Mel...if you think this needs to be moved somewhere else, just do a copy and paste. I'm sending you a pic to go with this post with all of my notes...just to show how I do it.

This is what works for me, but I'd love to hear from others about how they do it.

Love,

Karen
