My thoughts on a few... Duncan Hines Keto Friendly brownie mix: overall good on low sugar levels. I would just caution that eating these should be in moderation and treated like a true dessert. Maybe have 1-2x/week. The big reason is even though the main nutrition label doesn't call out all the 'true' sugar content, there are numerous ingredients and some of those are more refined than others, which means they can turn into sugar. It still is a better alternative than a full fledged sugar filled, fat filled dessert (no cheesecake for anyone but Mel!) Spanish Rice & Hamburger: all great ingredients, especially the cauliflower. The homemade chili powder has really good healing and toxic-cleansing spices that we all need in our bodies (garlic, cayenne, paprika, cumin...). For those plant eaters like myself, you could substitute the beef for garbanzo beans, black beans, or even quinoa. Or, use a plant-based meat substitute like Beyond Meat brand beef or turkey. Cornbread: It looks similar to Donald's Almond Biscuits. As long as we're using almond flour and very few ingredients, like Kerrygold butter and salt, these are pretty good to have. Again, moderation is key since it is still made with a flour base and it still contains carbs. Broccoli & Cauliflower Soup: this would be a fantastic go-to meal any day! All really good ingredients, especially the cruciferous veggies (broccoli, cauliflower, carrots). I also like how versatile it is and can add other dark leafy greens like kale or spinach. Again, all the spices are really good for gut health. Skinless Cod Fillets: altogether this looks like a good nutritious meal. For those new to the protocol and just starting out, it might be best to substitute the white wine with white cooking vinegar. Also, using less butter, if any at all, would probably be good when just starting out. After getting more and more comfortable with the protocol and how the person reacts to food, then going to butter and wine could be an option. I think that actually catches me up all the way to my last post on The Pies post back in May, but let me know if you're looking for something else. Talk soon. Joe | |||
