Hello Folks,

I wanted to share this wonderful message from my friend Dr. Fred Holtzman. His blog is featured on our website under the Health Info/Helpful Resources tag on the drop down menu:

he Power of Repetition

This passage’s structure is particularly important for uncovering its meaning. In Hebrew, emphasis is often conveyed not through visual markers such as underlining or bold type, but through repetition and placement. Key words and ideas are frequently repeated or positioned at the beginning or end of a section in order to underscore their importance.

That pattern is evident in Isaiah 41:10-13:

Do not fear, for I am with you; do not anxiously look about you, for I am your God. I will strengthen you; surely I will help you; surely I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.

For I am the LORD your God, who upholds your right hand, who says to you, ‘Do not fear, I will help you.’

The command “do not fear,” or similar phrases, repeats throughout and sets the tone for the passage. The core message is clear: since the Father is present and actively working amidst challenges, His followers have no real reason to fear. While hardships are unavoidable, fear does not have to dominate the hearts of the children of the King.

The Meaning of His Righteous Right Hand

But there is more. The Lord promises to uphold His people with “His righteous right hand.” The Hebrew expression bîmin tsidqî may be translated either “His righteous right hand” or, more interpretively, “His victorious right hand.” This expression combines several Hebrew terms, including “right hand” and “my righteousness. Literally, the phrase may be rendered “with the right hand of my righteousness,” though in smoother English it is most naturally translated, “with my righteous right hand.”

In the Ancient Near Eastern world, the “right hand” commonly symbolized “strength, authority, power, action, and protection.” In Isaiah 41:10, then, the Lord’s “righteous right hand” conveys far more than raw force. “It speaks of the Father's powerful, just, faithful, and protective presence of His people.”

The Father Will Not Let Us Go Down

This promise is deepened by the Hebrew verb tamakh, which in Isaiah 41:10 means “to hold fast,” “to support,” “to uphold,” or “to sustain.” In context, it is not merely someone quickly reaching out to catch a person already falling. Rather, “it portrays someone firmly holding another up and preventing the fall altogether.”

The image is overflowing with the Father’s loving, dependable, unswerving, supportive presence. “When you are weak, God holds you up. When you are shaken, He keeps you from collapsing. When you feel as though you are about to fall, He supports and steadies you.” This wonderful promise could be paraphrased: “I will not let you go down.”

Pause for a moment and picture two men walking arm in arm. The man on the right is strong, steady, and sure-footed. The man on the left, however, has recently undergone hip replacement surgery. His steps are cautious, his balance is uncertain, and his weakness is evident with each movement. The stronger man is not merely nearby in case he begins to fall. Rather, he is actively supporting him, bearing part of his weight, holding him upright, and preventing him from falling entirely.

This image offers a fitting picture of how the Father cares for each child of the King. He does not simply stand at a distance, waiting to intervene only after His people begin to fall. Instead, He actively sustains, steadies, and upholds them with His strong and righteous hand. In seasons of uncertainty, weakness, or distress, His support is constant and personal. He preserves His people's safety and stability by holding them secure at every step of the journey.
