I loved your post about Gertie, the pig!! Boy, that place sounds fun and very special, I was raised on a farm and miss being around animals. They are gonna love you to death!!
Keep posting about it !! I thought it was funny how the chickens etc... came running up to you!
Did you see on facebook or internet about the little girl and the special relationship she had with a chicken? It was the sweetest thing ever, and that chicken loved her !!
I looked up Nuthatch birds, they are beautiful!!! They sometimes mate for life! Thanks for that post too!!!
After I retired from teaching, I became a professional Nanny. They were some of the happiest years of my life!!
I would sit on the front porches or back porches and hold babies or the small children I kept and sing, mainly religious songs. Believe it or not, but birds would gather. Lots of birds!! Some would come closer and closer til they were about 3 ft. from me It happened every time I did this!! Were they curious??? Birds are extremely smart you know! Or were they praising God with me!!! I always wondered.
I had a parakeet named Sally who bonded with me, she would follow me around house and sit on the picture above my chair. Or if I was in the kitchen at the sink, she would sit on a ledge I had across the window. She would follow me wherever I went!
She never stayed out of the cage too long, they don"t like to be away from their food and water very long. Its a trick I learned from a book on birds. When I let her out, I'd close the cage up. within 30 min. she would fly back to the cage and tweet and chirp constantly to get back in!! I could hold her and hand feed her sweet treats! I enjoyed her so much!!
Pets are the best thing in the world to teach kids about nature, God, and responsibilities.
