Do you ever take the time to evaluate the ingredients in products that come in contact with your skin ? What is in your toothpaste, mouth wash, dish soap, shampoo, conditioner? Wouldn’t you prefer to use products that you know are safe and come from plants? Would you like to know the purpose of each ingredient? Well, why not take a few moments to read about the basic properties of the main ingredients in Oasis Shampoo. After reading them, you will feel safe and glad about using Oasis Shampoo!

“Cocamidopropyl betaine (CAPB) is a surfactant, which means that it interacts with water, making the molecules slippery so they don’t stick together. “
“When water molecules don’t stick together, they are more likely to bond with dirt and oil so when you rinse away the cleaning product, the dirt rinses away, too. In some products, CAPB is the ingredient that makes lather.”
“CAPB is a synthetic fatty acid made from coconuts, so products that are considered “natural” can contain this chemical. Still, some products with this ingredient may cause unpleasant side effects.”

Cocamide
“Is an emulsifier, thickener and foaming agent. This ingredient can increase the foaming capacity and/or stabilize the foam of a surfactant - most often a bath product such as shampoo or bubble bath. It can also increase the viscosity of an aqueous (water based) solution.”

“Because Cocamide DEA is both water soluble and oil soluble, it enables both water and oil to be evenly dispersed in a solution. It also traps the oil based dirt of the hair so that it can be rinsed away. While traditional cleansing surfactants (i.e. soap) have a drying effect, this ingredient effectively cleans the hair and conditions it with its natural fatty acids derived from coconut oil. It also has the ability to enhance the performance of other ingredients, namely cleansing agents and conditioners. You'll mostly find this ingredient in shampoo, body wash, cleanser, liquid soap, bubble bath, dandruff treatment, hair dye exfoliant/scrub and bath oil.”

Safety Measures/Side Effects:

“The FDA includes this ingredient, as well as all other fatty acid diethanolamides, on its list of permitted indirect food additives.
Research has also demonstrated it to be a mild dermal irritant and sensitizer. However, the CIR Expert Panel has concluded that as long as Cocamide DEA isn't included in any products containing nitrosating agents, carcinogenic nitrosamines will not form. Furthermore, they've determined it as safe to use in rinse-off products, and at concentrations of less than or equal to 10% in leave-on products.”

Phenoxyethanol
“What it is: Phenoxyethanol can be found naturally in green tea, but the commercial ingredient is synthetically produced in a laboratory creating what’s termed a “nature identical” chemical. Specifically, it’s created by treating phenol with ethylene oxide in an alkaline medium which all reacts to form a pH-balanced ingredient.”
“What is it used for: When phenoxyethanol is used in a very low concentration as a preservative because the most accessible alternatives for these types of formulas include parabens and formaldehyde-releasing preservatives. Both are classes of chemicals with demonstrable evidence of potential health risks, whereas phenoxyethanol is very safe at low levels. It’s been tested on the skin and eyes and it is non-irritating and non-sensitizing at levels of 2.2% or lower while being effective at only 1% concentrations. The European Union and Japan both approve its use up to that 1% level.”
Even better, phenoxyethanol doesn’t react with other ingredients, air or light. This kind of stability makes it an especially effective preservative.”
“What’s more, it’s included in the Handbook of Green Chemicals and is also Whole Foods Premium Body Care approved. And, their standards, developed by a team of scientists over the course of years, are some of the strictest available. “
