KNOWING GOD Be still, and know that I am God. Psalm 46:10
In Scripture, to know is to experience, to perceive, to have intimate knowledge through the senses. Those who are ill can develop ultrasensitivity to things like the temperature or noise level in a room or to pain, easily recognizing its impending onset. We may have an advantage then in experiencing, or feeling, the presence of God over some who are not ill. Illness can make us more practiced in that regard. "Be still," God tells us. "Simplify your life, simplify this day, and concentrate on seeing Me and feeling My love." Knowing God is a relationship that thrills someone's heart. It is not an intellectual assent to the words of His book or to the church, but a living, pulsing, risk-taking alliance with a heavenly Father, a glorious Bridegroom, an approachable King, an understanding Shepherd. To know God is to hear Him in the words of the Bible, to see Him in the face of Jesus, and to feel His comforting touch in the torment of illness.
We want to know You, God. We need to know You. Still our souls and come to us today that we might recognize You. Open our hearts, our eyes, our ears, our hands. Saturate us with the experience of Your love.
