Strength For Today by Sharon Broyles

October 2
HOLDING ON TO HOPE

Let us hold unswervingly to the hope we profess, for He who promised is faithful. Hebrews 10:23

Probably because of persecution, some members of the Christian community had withdrawn from the fellowship. The author of Hebrews encouraged them to come back in, to persevere and not give up, to hold confidently to their faith in Christ, to continue believing not only in God's promise to save them from the power of sin, but also in His ability to provide strength within the oppression.
The Greek word 'echo', translated as 'bold', means steadfast adherence. It means fastening myself to something and not letting go. In English, an echo is something I cannot throw away. It keeps coming back to me like a resounding boomerang no matter how far I may try to throw my voice.
When illness flares, I may try to toss my hope in God back to God. But because of HIS faithfulness, not mine, He just holds on to my hope for a little while and safeguards it until I'm ready to hope again. He knows each time I may hold on to it a little longer than before.

Faithful and immovable God, thank You for
fastening Yourself to me and never letting go--
no matter how angry or discouraged I get over
this illness.

Today, I will reclaim some of that hope You're holding on to for me.
