The Light Has Come
I have come as a light into the world, that whoever believes in Me should not abide in darkness. John 12:46
Advent is the name given to a Church season, the four weeks or so immediately preceding Christmas Day. In Latin, the word means "to come" and it begins the English word adventure. During Advent, the Church waits, expectant and hopeful. Many Christians symbolically employ an Advent wreath, in which five candles representing the God of Light Who comes into the world of man as Man Himself, are arranged in a circular bed of greens. Jesus compares His coming to the turning on of a light in a dark room. On the very first day of creation, God said, "Let there be light." Then thousands of years later, He hung a star in the sky so brilliant that it guided travelers from hundreds of miles away to the birthplace of the One Who is Light. God has gone to all this trouble so that I might believe there's HOPE for me in the darkness of my illness as well as in the darkness of evil. I don't have to remain in the dark. The Light has come.
You Who are the Light of the world, thank You for coming as a comforting night light when I need it in the dark nighttimes of my illness. Fill my heart today with the anticipation of and a new appreciation for Your illuminating advent into my world. |
