and hello John. Lovely to hear from you. I've been meaning to write an update and reading your post has urged me on. Look for Nairns gluten free oatcakes. I think they only have gluten free oats, salt and water. I've sometimes eaten four eggs a day (free range) when hungry. Avocados are expensive but I get them from Aldi or Lidl when they are hard and green then keep them in the fridge and take out and ripen on a window sill to have them. I used to eat at least one a day. Sorry to hear nuts are difficult for you to eat. Are you eating the raw, unprocessed nuts? I wonder if you can eat almond butter. There is a very simple almond fudge recipe that you can eat straight out of the freezer which tastes great. Also I make an almond (ground almonds) and flaxseed bread which is quite straightforward and lovely with butter. Do you cook much? I wonder if you would be ok with ground almonds. If not there is always coconut flour to make bread with. I was always ok with chick peas and chick pea flour although I was careful at first with small amounts. You can get mini popadoms from Sainsburys that I again was careful with at first and would still only eat a few. I had lentils in homemade soup though which helped with weight.Soup is easy - lots of any veg cooked together with red lentils - cook for 20 mins then whizz up in liquidiser or with hand held masher. Coconut cream packets also helped keep my weight on and I would add a packet to my soup and have garlic, ginger and spices in the soup which are all great for us. Boiling up a chicken carcass in water for a 2-3 hours makes a good stock to cook the soup veg in. Bone broth is good for us. I also boil up lamb bones if we have a lamb joint. Its always tough eating in other peoples' homes and truly I haven't done much and it was awkward at times but people cope with me eating protein and salad or veg. They find it hard to believe I won't eat a fruit salad even though I've warned them I don't eat dessert. This was my third Christmas cooking all the Christmas food and not eating most of it! Once I've got my mind set, although I find it hard at times its not been impossible. Also I tell myself that I know what things taste like so I can just remember and don't need to eat it now. I can find it harder if it was some amazing creation that I had no idea what it tasted like. But even then I can get someone to describe it in detail and that's interesting. I am someone that LOVES food and cooking and baking and trying recipes and I have had to let that go a bit. But I am having fun trying all sorts of new ingredients and different ways of cooking. I thought yesterday, would I ever let myself try a tiny slice of millionaires shortbread, which I make for the family at Christmas. When I think of the sugar content I'm not sure I would ever eat it. I think I would like to try and make a healthier version in the future. I've got to go and cook tea in a minute so will speed up but keep letting us know how things are going John. It took me about a month to get over the visit to the dermatologist. Its traumatic and there's grief and anger attached and I was never offered anti psychotics so I think its been tough for you. I hope the doctor is a help and support to you. A quick update for me is that with Mel's agreement I have stopped the WPS. I'm still on the olive leaf as I pack up a month's supply of pill boxes at a time but after a few days that will stop as well. The reason? well I think my symptoms have gone! I got to the stage that I was looking at teeny tiny specks with a magnifying glass and not sure if they were from me or dust in the air. I don't have any crawling, stings or bites or rashes. So I will stop the WPS and olive leaf for a few months and see what happens and keep you posted! I've been on the protocol for two years and four months. I wanted to be finished in twelve months but its taken a bit longer. Keep going every one! | |||
