Hi Miles,

So good that you're posting with such detail. It makes it easier for others who have experienced the same things to help you.

For starters...everything you wrote in your last post...ditto for me. I was a popcycle when I first got sick...I couldn't get warm. That went away. I still get the shaking occasionally...but that is supposed to be a kind of herx too, if I'm not mistaken. So many of these unpleasant things are herxes. Herxes will be with you to one degree or another until you get rid of this. They will lessen in intensity and then you might get a bad patch out of the blue that lasts a short while when you're a lot better, but the good news is you'll be used to it and let it roll off your back.

The real reason I wanted to respond to you is because of what you said about having ADHD. I too have ADHD. I found out as an adult and then went on Adderall for years. It was great...I was able to focus and get things done. I was very careful with my dose and didn't escalate...and I was monitored by my doctor on a monthly basis.

I got off of it in May of 2017. Here's why. I read the CDC report on Morgellons. I don't know if you remember or not, but I'd mentioned in an earlier post to you that I'd read that report and had noticed they had used a pretty narrow control group. Many of the people in the control group they studied had a history of drug abuse, particularly stimulants. This was mentioned in the findings of the study, and the wording was such that indicated people who presented with the symptoms of Morgellons would likely be former drug abusers and therefore delusional (my words...there's were more carefully stated, but it was the gist).

Of course my first question was...why did they include so many former drug abusers in their study? It couldn't have been that hard to find people with the same symptoms who had never abused drugs. My guess is they had an agenda for what they wanted the results to be prior to the study, but I'm sure there would be people who would disagree.

In any case, many people in the study who'd used stimulants (illegally or otherwise) presented with the same symptoms we do. Instead of concluding delusions related to drug abuse (handy out for the CDC), my conclusion was that these type of drugs stimulate the reproduction of the pathogens.

If you think about it, it makes sense. We even have to be careful about coffee and caffeine in general...and some ADHD medicines are stimulant based such as Ritalin...Adderall...etc. I was on Adderall...so I stopped it, and I started getting better. There are other ADHD meds that aren't stimulant based...but I've never had much luck with those...with the exception of Welburtin (Buproprion is the generic). That one isn't designed for ADHD per se, but it does seem to help with some of those symptoms without aggravating my Morgellons symptoms.

I don't know what you're on, but you might want to check and see if it's a stimulant. If so, you might want to consider going to a non stimulant ADHD Rx or getting rid of it altogether.

Getting off of the Adderall definitely helped my Morgellons symptoms, but it certainly left me with a lot to handle in terms of focus and organization. I often joke that I have to use my OCD to manage my ADHD.

My whole 31 year career has been in dyslexia. Now there's little or no stigma associated with dyslexia, but in the past, that wasn't the case. People understand it and know what to do. I say this because dyslexia and ADHD are considered co-morbid. Not every time, but ADHD can often be present alongside dyslexia. I'm usually very careful about talking about my career...but I bring this up because I've put forth much effort over the years helping others lose the stigma for any disorder they may be dealing with. Stigma will hurt you and keep you from getting help. People are still embarrassed about ADHD, but they shouldn't be. People with ADHD are often extremely creative and out of the box thinkers. I think they're fun to be around...lol...well...maybe it's because ADHD people seem kind of normal to me.

So...don't be embarrassed to disclose your ADHD. I wear the badge...oh! There's a squirrel!!! proudly. That's the ADHD slogan, after all.

In any case, you might want to check what kind of meds you have and make adjustments. I live with lists everywhere because I don't take meds any more. Everything is a lot more trouble than it was when I was on Adderall. I have to talk to myself daily to sit down and get busy on a task. However...I always get things done when I need to. I miss Adderall so much and would love to get back on it....but I hate the Morgellon symptoms more.

So...there's my two cents. Take it for what it's worth and please do remember that I'm not a doctor...just someone who has been living with this disease and who has a pretty decent ability to analyze information and draw reasonable conclusions.

Keep posting Miles...we're all cheering you on!

Love,

Karen
